Gardener – Grounds Maintenance

Job Overview

We are seeking to employ a candidate who is

  • Eligible for the JCPP for a full time or part time role starting at 3 days per week 9am to 3.30pm (weekdays) (18 hours) starting ASAP.

The role will be made up of approx. 70% physical work such as hand tools, refueling and gardening and 30% admin such as time sheets and ground maintenance admin. We are a supportive employer should you have a lifting restriction. Our 2-week induction allows us to adequately assess the workplace to accommodate your capacity

Description:

  • preparing and maintaining seedbeds and growing sites
  • propagating and planting trees, bushes, hedges, flowers and bulbs
  • preparing lawn areas by spreading top soil and planting grass, and by laying instant turf
  • maintaining planted and grassed areas by weeding, trimming, fertilising, watering and mowing
  • pruning trees and hedges, and installing plant support and protection devices
  • preparing plans and drawings, selecting materials and plants, and scheduling landscape construction
  • setting out and installing hardscape and softscape structures
  • constructing gravel and paved areas, walls, fences, pergolas, ponds, barbecues and garden furniture
  • examining trees to assess their condition and determine treatment
  • lopping limbs off trees and shaping branches using chain and handsaws
  • spraying and dusting plants and trees to control insects and disease, and felling diseased trees

Physical Demands:
The role may include the following physical demands, taking into consideration individual capacity requirements of the applicant;

  • Medium to very heavy physical level demand. Medium to very heavy lifting and carrying of bags of fertiliser, soil mixes, and garden equipment, is likely to be required on a frequent basis.
  • Stands and walks frequently. Stretches up and/or across when undertaking some general garden maintenance tasks. Frequently squats, crouches, bends and kneels. Occasionally twists body or neck if operating drive on equipment or working in trees.
  • Repetitive movements will be occasional to constant (e.g. hedge trimming/garden edging).
  • Driving is likely to be required of vehicles onsite, such as ride on mowers, or for transportation between sites.
  • The use of hand tools both manual and mechanical will be frequent to constant. Workers will need to spray fertilisers and pesticides on an occasional to frequent basis.
  • Mental skills necessary include practical, organisational and problem-solving

Qualifications

  • Hold’s a white card
  • Valid Australian Driver’s Licence
